Research Opportunities for Kids
The animal experts at the Zoo conduct lots of important research about animals, and now kids can help too.
Our KidScience and Zoo U. programs give kids first-hand experience with Zoo research.
For Middle School Students (Grades 6 - 8): KidScience
KidScience is a year-long program designed to introduce middle school students to methods and principles related to conservation biology. KidScience students become part of the Zoo's research team, and get hands-on experience doing real animal behavior research. Through this program, students gain an understanding of research methods and skills, cooperation, and teamwork, environmental stewardship, and are exposed to science-related careers. Activities include classroom lessons, data collection and analysis, behind-the-scenes tours, research projects, and field trips.
For High School Students (Grades 9 - 12): Zoo U.
Our Zoo U. program is designed to fit the busy lifestyle of teens, while helping them explore new areas of science and conservation in a fun and exciting way. Zoo U. students take an in-depth look at current research and theories in the fields of zoology, biology, ecology, and more. Classes are designed to be hands-on and challenging for students in grades 9 to 12.
