FAQs
How many weeks can my child attend Zoo Camp?
Zoo Camp sessions are designed for campers to attend only one week of camp per summer in either the Half-Day or Full-Day sessions.
What if I need to pick up my child prior to the scheduled time?
If it becomes necessary to pick up your child early on a specific day, arrangements should be made with the teacher/counselor when signing in on that day. Any emergency arising after sign-in time can be addressed by calling our emergency number (412-979-5607).
Can my younger child attend the same class as his/her older sibling even though he/she does not meet the age parameters of the class?
Unfortunately, no. Our programs are designed for specific age groups. Therefore, for the benefit of all of the campers, only children of the appropriate age will be admitted to the class.
How can I be sure my child will attend with his/her friend?
In order to assure attendance with a friend or friends, please be sure to register all children on the same form. It is best to include second and third week choices when registering, in case your first choice is full.
What if my child's friend is already registered? Can they be in the same session if I write a note on my form?
We have over 2200 campers each summer, so the only way to absolutely guarantee that your child will be placed in the same session as a friend is to register them on the same form. Payment for all campers must be included. Your understanding and cooperation is very much appreciated!
What is the difference between the Half-Day and Full-Day sessions of the same category?
Half-Day and Full-Day sessions are essentially the same, but with a more tightly structured program in the Half-Day session. Full-Day camp sessions afford instructors and campers a more leisurely pace and the chance to explore topics more fully, with time for additional activities.
What is the cancellation policy?
If, after registering, you find you must cancel, a refund can be issued less a 20% processing fee. Refunds can take 6 - 8 weeks to process. If you cancel less than 7 days prior to the session, or after the session has begun, no refund can be made.
Can you accommodate a child with special needs?
Yes, we will accommodate a child with special needs. Please note that the Zoo does not employ specific individuals certified and trained to handle special needs. If your child has special needs that require one-to-one attention, an aide should accompany him or her. The aide is required to provide the Zoo with current PA Clearances: Act 33/151 (Child Abuse History) and Act 34 (Criminal History).
What is Before and After Care?
Before and After Care is supervised care for your child beyond Zoo Camp hours. It is available for ages 4-13, and it is only available in the C (June 18-22), F (July 9-13), and I (July 30-August 3) weeks. There is a $10 charge for each AM (7:45 - 9am) and/or PM (4 - 5:15pm) care session. With registration, you may drop off your child for Before Care as early as 7:45 am and pick your child up from After Care as late as 5:15 pm. Please do not send money for Before and After Care with your Zoo Camp registration. Once Zoo Camp Confirmations are processed, you will be emailed a registration form to select the specific days and care sessions you need. Cost is $10 per session, per child.
Can I get a receipt for my Zoo Camp payment?
Yes, we are happy to issue a receipt for your Zoo Camp payment. It is our policy not to issue a receipt until after the child has attended camp, so please email reservations@pittsburghzoo.org during your child's Zoo Camp week to request a receipt.
If you have any additional questions, please e-mail learn@pittsburghzoo.org or call 412-365-2528. To check session availability, please click here and then click on the appropriate age category.
