World Oceans Day Celebration

Why celebrate World Oceans Day in Pittsburgh, you ask?  We don’t live near an ocean, you say.  Join us as we celebrate World Oceans Day and learn how your actions affect the ocean and what you can do to make a difference.  This year focuses on encouraging solutions to plastic pollution and preventing marine litter for a healthier ocean and a better future.  Activities include keeper conversations, special animal enrichment, crafts for children, as well as a special River Litter Art Exhibit featuring local artists.

The Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium is looking for artists to submit pieces for our World Oceans Day Celebration. The event will take place on Saturday, June 9th and Sunday, June 10th. The focus is plastic pollution, the damage caused by plastic usage, and what we can do to make a positive impact. As part of this event, we will have an art exhibition in the PPG Aquarium that promotes local talents and showcases work focusing on the World Oceans Day theme.  We are looking for artists to submit work using recycled materials and highlighting sea life. Submissions should adhere to the theme of the event and be made by May 1st. Artists submitting their work will notified if their work was selected by May 18th.
