(Pittsburgh) (November, 2011)—The Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium’s 7-year-old male polar bear, Nuka, has a new home!
Under a recommendation from the Species Survival Plan that oversees zoo breeding, Nuka moved to the Detroit Zoo’s new polar bear habitat, Arctic Ring of Life on November 8.
“It was tough saying goodbye to Nuka," says Paul Moylett, polar bear keeper at the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium. “But we are thrilled that Nuka will have the opportunity to be a dad in the future."
Nuka will spend time behind the scenes acclimating to his new home and keepers. Once he is comfortable in a couple of weeks, keepers will introduce Nuka to female Talini and hopefully sparks will fly and the pair will mate.
