Aquarium/Water's Edge Interships

Thank you for your interest in the PPG Aquarium and Waters Edge internship program!

Aquarium interns will be exposed to all areas of the aquarium: freshwater & saltwater fish, corals, penguins, sharks, stingrays, and invertebrates. Duties will include: testing water quality, exhibit maintenance & husbandry care, diet preparation and feeding, record keeping, participate in educational tours and classes, and assist with enrichment, medical treatments, and fish acclimation. We require interns to work at least 2 days a week, and must be available weekdays and weekends. Hours are from 8 – 5pm.

Interns at Water’s Edge will have the opportunity to take part in the daily husbandry of Polar Bears, Sea Otters, and Sand Tiger sharks. Responsibilities might include: diet preparation, exhibit and feed room maintenance, visitor interactions and assistance with enrichment and training projects. There is no direct animal interaction.

Volunteer divers are a vital part of routine exhibit maintenance and visitor interactions, via Q&A, using our Underwater Communications Systems. Interested divers can contact the Dive Safety officer, Ashley Kidd: akidd@pittsburghzoo.org, for further information.
