ZooZilla Run for the Gorillas 5K


For all ages

Run wild at this year’s ZooZilla Run for the Gorillas 5K! Runners, joggers, and walkers of all ages are welcome to participate in one of Pittsburgh’s most challenging courses to support our gorilla troop and World Gorilla Day. Racers will weave through the park enjoying the views and scenery as the Zoo wakes up for the day.

NEW this year, we are also offering a kids Ele-FUN-Run for our youngest Zoo supporters in honor of Elephant Appreciation Day! This is a 50-yard dash that is ideal for children under 7 but is open to all ages. Adults are welcome to run with their child without registering, however only registered participants will receive a participant medal and t-shirt.

Proceeds from the runs will support our gorilla troop in recognition of World Gorilla Day and our elephant family in recognition of Elephant Appreciation Day, along with all of the other animal species that call the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium home, by providing funds for nutrition, medical care, enrichment activities, habitat enhancements, and so much more!

T-shirt and Bib Pick-Up

For registered participants only

Registered participants may pick up their t-shirt and bib on one of the following days:

  • Wednesday, September 18, between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m.
  • Thursday, September 19, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
  • Friday, September 20, between 8 a.m. and 12 p.m.

Please note that the dates and times listed above are the only times when materials will be distributed prior to the race. 

Registered participants can pick up their t-shirt and bib at the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium, Education Complex located at One Wild Place on the above dates and times. Please take the elevator to the second floor to pick up your t-shirt and bib.

Day of pick up will occur in the main Zoo parking lot near the start line.

Directions to Education Complex:
From Downtown Pittsburgh
From the Consol Energy Center, take the Veteran’s Bridge and exit on 28 North. Follow 28 North and take Exit 6 (Highland Park Bridge). Cross the bridge following signs for the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium. Make a right at the end of the bridge onto Butler Street. At the first light, make a left onto One Wild Place. Go to the top of the hill and make the first right – this is our employee parking lot. Our offices are located on the second floor of the Education Complex.

Please be sure to bring a copy of your registration confirmation with you when picking up your packet to expedite the process. If you are unable to pick up your t-shirt and bib, you can send your registration confirmation with another participant for pick up if you would like.

If you are unable to pick up your items ahead of the race, everything will be available on the day of the race. Registered participants should pick up their items near the starting line, in the main parking lot, beginning at 7 a.m. on Saturday, November 21.

*Please note that in order to receive free admission to the Zoo on Saturday after the race, you must have your race t-shirt with you.
