Pride In Our People: Tina

Our newest digital series, Pride In Our People, features the incredible staff at the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium through written first-person narratives and/or podcast interviews.
We are honored to continue this series with Tina on the Grounds team.
This is her story…

I was the first female laborer hired at the Zoo on September 22, 1986.

I have done many things in my thirty year career at the Zoo but just to name a few…

I was the first female president of the Aquarium and Zoo Facilities Association, an opportunity given to me through the Zoo.

I have also had numerous animal interactions thanks to the many Animal Care Specialists who have trusted me to be able to feed or help with animal care.

I think my favorite part of working at the Zoo is the arrival and departures of animals.

It humbles me that the Animal Care Specialists, Veterinarians, and Curators trust me with loading or unloading either incoming or departing animals.

My other favorite part is working special events, especially Dream Night. To see the smiles on those kids faces is so heartwarming and makes what I do that much more rewarding.

It is something that is very humbling and makes me feel that I must be doing something right.

Thank you for all you do, Tina!
