What is ZooBoo?
ZooBoo is our kid-friendly Halloween event occurring throughout the Zoo grounds. Enter our not-so-scary haunt spots, if you dare! Create creepy crafts at Casper’s Craft Corner. Show off your spooktacular costumes in our Halloween parade and costume contest. Be wowed with magic, meet your favorite characters, and show off your dance moves. Plus, visit the Trick-Or-Treat-Trail to collect treats and goodies!

When is ZooBoo?
ZooBoo is October 19, 20, 26, 27. The event begins at 10 a.m. each day and all ZooBoo activities end at 3 p.m.

How much does ZooBoo cost?
ZooBoo activities are included with admission to the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium, unless otherwise noted.

Is parking free?
Yes, Zoo parking is free for visitors.  Please use the following address for directions to the main Zoo parking lot: 7340 Butler Street Pittsburgh, PA 15206.  We recommend that you arrive early to beat the traffic and get a good parking spot.

When is the best time to attend ZooBoo?
We suggest arriving towards the beginning of the event.  Crowds increase throughout the day and all activities end at 3 p.m., so be sure to give yourself plenty of time to enjoy all of the activities and trick-or-treating!

What activities cost extra?
Our carousel and log ride cost extra.

Is ZooBoo included with my Membership?
Yes, all Members receive free admission to ZooBoo.  Members will still be required to purchase carousel ride and log ride tickets.

What is the appropriate age group for ZooBoo activites?
ZooBoo activities are planned for children under 12 and their families, but everyone is welcome!

How much candy will children receive while trick-or-treating through the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium?
There will be a variety of stops throughout the Zoo and through the Trick-Or-Treat-Trail. Treats will include candy, cookies, fruit snacks, and juice, as well as other non-food items like temporary tattoos.

Will treat bags be provided?
No, treat bags are not provided at this event.  We encourage our guests to go green for Halloween and bring your own treat totes or plastic pumpkins for trick-or-treating.

What activities, other than trick-or-treating, will be occuring at ZooBoo?
We will have two haunt spots, as well as a Trick-or-Treat Trail to get you into the Halloween spirit.  Additionally, we will have a themed craft station.  Show off your costume during one of our costume parades starting at the PPG Aquarium patio by the polar bear exhibit and parade down to the Pumpkin Patch Pavilion for the costume contest.  Join us at our Pumpkin Patch Pavilion stage for a dance party with Disturbing the Peace DJs, character meet & greets, and magic shows.  See our animals enjoy their Halloween treats throughout the Zoo and watch our divers carve pumpkins underwater in the PPG Aquarium.  For minimal fees, children can ride the carousel or log ride.

Are costumes allowed?
Yes, in fact, we encourage our guests to dress up for ZooBoo and participate in our Halloween parade and costume contest. This is a family event, so we encourage family-friendly costumes.  Some accessories, such as bikes, scooters, skateboards, balloons, or loud, noise-making props  are not allowed.  We ask that you take off any masks when entering our Tropical Rain Forest, as it can startle the animals. Many activities will be outdoors, so be sure to dress appropriately for the weather.

Will the animals be out during ZooBoo?
Most animals will be on exhibit during ZooBoo, unless the weather is below 40 degrees.  Some animals will have access to their indoor exhibits throughout the day, so if you don’t see them, be sure to go back and check later!  Check our schedule of events to find out when your favorite animals will be receiving their Halloween treats.

Will we be able to take photos with the Elephant?
Please check the morning of the event for updates. Elephant photos are an additional charge at $10/group.

Will the tram run during ZooBoo?
Due to trick-or-treating and costume parades along the pathways, the UPMC Health Plan Tram will NOT run during ZooBoo.
