Fostering concern and appreciation for the natural world around us
May 12, 2025
At the Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium, we know the future of wildlife and wild places lies in the imaginations of our children. They are growing up in a world where climate change, deforestation, and biodiversity loss are undeniable reality. This is why our conservation education programs are designed to inspire ideas and critical thinking about animals, as well as foster concern and appreciation for the natural world around us. The entire Zoo is one wild classroom that combines viewing animals firsthand with traditional instruction. Increasing the impact of learning and sparking students’ imaginations make children far more likely to act to preserve the natural world in their backyards and far beyond – hopefully, for a lifetime.
These Zoo education programs are here for you, your family, and all the children of the region. In 2024, we served over 61,000 children at the Zoo and traveled 6,000 miles to reach another 26,000 through community outreach. This year, we anticipate over 100,000 participants. With this increase, we want to continue to provide the same high-quality programs at an affordable cost. Since program fees only cover a portion of the actual program costs, we depend on the support of individuals like you to assist us in bridging the gap between costs and fees. Your donation will ensure that we continue to share the importance of conservation with even more children.
