Prehistoric Giants are the Stars of Special Exhibit
March 30, 2026
Something big has arrived at the Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium for the season! Dinosaurs!, a special limited-time exhibition running now through September 7, 2026, brings guests into the shadow of the terrible titans of the past. This experience takes place throughout the park and is included free with admission.
This extraordinary journey through time allows guests to encounter some of the largest animals to ever walk the Earth. From a baby Triceratops to the tyrant king of the lizards, Tyrannosaurus rex, over 30 different animatronic dinosaurs will lurk throughout Zoo grounds. There’s a dinosaur around every corner!
“This immersive exhibit transports you to a bygone era where guests can encounter life-size dinosaurs face to face,” says Director of Events & Special Projects Sam Holloway. “These life-sized creatures are up to 35 feet in height and stretch more than 90 feet in length!”
Dinosaurs! is an unforgettable, family-friendly experience that blends education and excitement as you explore the 186 million years of the Mesozoic Era, when giant creatures dominated the Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous periods. Additional dinosaur activities including photo opportunities, skeletons, and fossil dig pits will set your spirits saur-ing. Throughout the summer, there will be supplemental opportunities to increase your Dino I.Q. with a scavenger hunt and special amphitheater education shows. The Zoo’s special events will also reflect the dinosaur theme, with Sip & Swirl: Wine and Dinos, an evening of wine and spirit samples on Friday, April 10, and Summer Safari: Zoorassic Park, the Zoo’s annual signature fundraiser on Friday, June 5.
Guests can get up-close and personal with familiar dinosaurs like the plated and spike-tailed Stegosaurus, horned Triceratops, and lengthy-necked Apatosaurus, as well as some less familiar species like the Asian stegosaur Wuerhosaurus, the sauropod with the longest known neck Mamenchisaurus, the carnivorous and sickle-clawed Utahraptor, the brilliantly frilled Styracosaurus, and the massive flying reptile Quetzalcoatlus.
Zoo Members, who always receive free daytime admission, can visit Dinosaurs! as many times as they like. Be sure to stomp on by this spring and summer and fossilize some dinomite memories!
