Donor-Advised Funds (DAFs)
Donor-Advised Funds are a popular and tax-efficient way to give. With a DAF, you can contribute to the Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium by recommending grants from your fund. This allows you to make a significant impact on our mission. If you have a DAF, contact your fund provider to make a gift to the Zoo.
Stocks and Securities
Gifting appreciated stocks or securities is a powerful way to support the Zoo. When you donate stocks, you can avoid paying capital gains taxes, and you may be eligible for a charitable deduction based on the fair market value of the assets. Please contact us for more information on how to gift stocks or securities.
Pennsylvania’s Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC)
This program offers individuals a meaningful way to support the Zoo while receiving exceptional tax benefits. Eligible donors can receive a Pennsylvania state tax credit equal to 90% of their contribution to the Zoo—meaning a $10,000 gift can reduce your state taxes by $9,000 dollar-for-dollar. The remaining portion of your gift may also qualify for a federal charitable income tax deduction, allowing your generosity to go even further. Through EITC, you can direct the tax dollars you already owe toward innovative learning opportunities for kids and help inspire the next generation of conservation leaders. For more information on making a gift, contact our partners at Friends of Education.
Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs)
If you’re over the age of 70½ and have a traditional IRA, you can make a Qualified Charitable Distribution directly to the Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium. This type of donation is not subject to income tax, and it counts toward your required minimum distribution (RMD). A QCD is an excellent way to give while minimizing your tax burden.
