Suggest a Name for a $5 Donation
June 15, 2026
We heard the roar of the people! The Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium’s two-month-old female lion cub is capturing hearts even behind the scenes. While she continues to grow with her mom Scarlett and will not be visible in her public habitat until late summer, you can make a connection now by giving her a name. The Zoo is looking to the public for suggestions with an online naming contest.
For a $5 donation, guests can submit a name for the cub here. The top names will be vetted by keeper staff and then proceed to a final selection. Whether inspired by her regal heritage, her emerging purr-sonality, or pure imagination, entries are welcome from lion lovers of all ages.
The cub was born on Easter Sunday, April 5, 2026, to first-time parents, mom Scarlett and dad Hondo. She has been getting acquainted with the world in a behind-the-scenes den and will make her grrrrand debut in the African Savanna habitat later this summer.
The contest will remain open for one month, from Tuesday, June 16, through Friday, July 17, 2026. Guests may submit multiple names, each for a $5 donation. After submissions close, Zoo staff will review and vet the entries before selecting the winning name to be announced on the Zoo’s social media channels. The fundraising effort will support the Zoo’s ongoing animal care, conservation, and education initiatives.
The perfect name is just one bright idea away: unleash your creativity and submit your best suggestion. Every future Queen of the Jungle deserves a name she can roar about!
