For our guests who have sensory processing needs, our Zoo has partnered with KultureCity to improve our ability to assist and accommodate guests with sensory needs. Our objective is to provide an inclusive and seamless experience for all guests for all events including those with sensory needs. We strive to raise awareness of the needs and challenges faced by individuals with sensory processing disorders by supplying our Team Members with continuous training and by offering the resources and accommodations below to our guests.
Sensory Bags
Sensory bags containing special KCVIP badges, fidget tools, noise canceling headphones and other
resources are available for checkout (at no cost by leaving an ID) at our Guest Services Booth located
at our admission gates.
Weighted Lap Pads
Weighted lap pads are also available upon request (at no cost by leaving an ID) at our Guest Services
Booth located at our admission gates.

Need a wheelchair, scooter, or stroller?
Rentals are sold out for Mother’s Day.
Wheelchairs, single and double strollers, and electric scooters can be rented at Safari Wheels from April through October. From November through March, they can be rented at the Safari Outpost.
Wheelchairs: $10 per day
Single stroller: $10 per day
Double stroller: $13 per day
Electric scooters: $35 per day
Reserve Yours
It is strongly recommended to make an advanced reservation for wheelchairs and electric scooters. Quantities are limited. Without a reservation, rentals are on a first-come, first-serve basis and there is no guarantee one will be available. To make a reservation, please call 412-365-6020.

Village Outfitters
One of two gift shops located in The Village near the entrance of the Zoo, this open-air shop features a wide selection of children’s toys, plush animals, T-shirts and more. This shop is for the young and young at heart. It is a favorite shop for school groups and young families.
Open daily, April through September, weather permitting.
Current Gift Shop
The Current Gift Shop is located in the Aquarium. This spectacular gift shop features an array of unique aquatic plush creatures, apparel, gifts, books, jewelry and toys.
Open year-round.
Safari Wheels
Located in The Village at the main entrance to the Zoo, this location primarily offers electric scooter, wheelchair, and stroller rentals. But this location serves as the gear shop, with items such as cameras, hats, sunscreen, batteries, and ponchos available.
Open year-round, weather permitting.
Northwest Trading Company
The Zoo’s newest gift shop is located in the plaza between Water’s Edge and Kids Kingdom. Whether it’s a plush animal from the Water’s Edge exhibit, or gear for a Northwest expedition, you’ll find it here.
Open daily, April through September, weather permitting.
Safari Outpost
Located in The Village. This unique shop offers a selection of art, apparel, plush animals, jewelry, books, toys, and other fine gifts. An ATM machine, which operates from April 1 to October 31, is located at the entrance to this building.
Open year-round.
The Zoo’s food service is operated and managed by Service Systems Associates (SSA), and offers a diverse array of dining options. All restaurants participate in the Twenty-Five to Survive program and accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express.

Safari Plaza
The African-themed Jambo Grill is located at the mid-point of the Zoo, making it a great place to take a break during your safari. Jambo Grill offers a fresh, made-to-order menu. Located next door is Swahili Pizza, which offers several pizza variations, alongside Swahili Ice Cream. Swahili Pizza and Swahili Ice Cream are open seasonally.
Village Market
Village Market, conveniently located at the top of the escalators near the Zoo entrance, offers a variety of food, beverages, and snacks. Open Memorial Day to Labor Day.
Arctic Express
Located outside of the lower level of the Aquarium, Arctic Express offers quick, on-the-go snacks. Open seasonally and weather dependant.
Modified Operations
Tram service is among our modified operations and is not available at this time. This convenient feature will be returning in the near future.
During operation, on select days, guests will be able to travel the Zoo on the UPMC Health Plan Tram for a minimal ride-all-day fee. Trams will circle the Zoo and stop at most major exhibit areas.
The tram is generously sponsored by UPMC Health Plan.
