International Conservation Center Animal Tracks Program

INTERNATIONAL CONSERVATION CENTER ELEPHANT TRACK

Through the use of technology, the Elephants Animal Tracks curriculum will provide a platform for students, without regards to their geographic location, to learn about elephants at the Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium’s International Conservation Center (ICC).

This flexible lesson guide allows for educators to customize the experience to meet students’ academic levels.  Lessons contain activities appropriate for grades: K-2, 3-6, & 7-12 with extension suggestions.  The curriculum includes seven lessons, basic elephant facts, and corresponding activity sheets.  Lesson topics include adaptations, habitat information, social structure, ecosystems, and an Expert Care lesson that focuses on the care of our elephants.  In addition, students will be introduced to conservation threats affecting elephants, how the Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium is helping, and will be encouraged to learn more and get involved.  Ask the Expert prompts throughout this guide will prepare students for their live video chat with our ICC Staff.
