Zoo Operations Schedule

Our Zoo is open all year round, however our peak season is between Memorial Day weekend and Labor Day. We run on an adjusted operations schedule during the fall, winter, and spring. See our full schedule to learn what to expect during your visit based on the season.

What to Expect From Your Visit

Summer

Full Operation (Memorial Day Weekend – Labor Day)

All food stands, gift shops, rides, and attractions are scheduled to be open. All animals are scheduled to be on exhibit, weather permitting. Shows, animal photos, and scheduled enrichment are available. UPMC Tram runs daily. All indoor buildings are open: Tropical Forest Complex, PPG Aquarium, Worlds of Discovery. Fall and Spring

Limited Operation (After Labor Day – November)

Reduced general admission prices. Select food stands, gift shops, and rides are open depending on park attendance and weather permitting. Depending on weather conditions, animals that are comfortable in cooler temperatures are scheduled to be on exhibit. Some warm-weather animals have viewing areas or windows to see them indoors. All indoor buildings are open: Tropical Forest Complex, PPG Aquarium, Worlds of Discovery. Presentations and animal photos are not scheduled. UPMC Tram operates on weekends through the end of September.

ZooBoo Operation (Last two weekends in October)

Most food stands, gift shops, and rides are scheduled to be open. Depending on weather conditions, animals that are comfortable in cooler temperatures are scheduled to be on exhibit. Some warm-weather animals have viewing areas or windows to see them indoors. All indoor buildings are open: Tropical Forest Complex, PPG Aquarium, Worlds of Discovery. ZooBoo special activites are scheduled. UPMC Tram does not operate. Fall general admission prices.

Winter

Winter Operation (December – May)

Reduced general admission prices. Main restaurant and select gift shops open. Reptiles and warm-climate animals off exhibit for the season (some warm weather animals have viewing areas and windows to see them indoors). All indoor buildings are open: Tropical Forest Complex, PPG Aquarium, Worlds of Discovery. Most rides and attractions are closed. Penguins on Parade is scheduled during weekends.
